“It was a pleasure to burn.
It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed.”

Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451 (1951)

This project was pretty straightforward. Read a book, and design a jacket for it. What was really interesting to me about this project is that we would eventually get our book cover produced by a binding company to see what an actual printed version would look like. My pages came blank, so I use this book as a sketchbook now.

For my project, I decided to make a collage, since Fahrenheit 451 is about a “firefighter” whose job is to set books on fire in an effort for government media control. I used old magazines and newspapers, and torched the ends with a lighter to create the effect of paper flames. Looking back on this now, I think I would have done the type differently on the digital portion in the inside and on the back cover, but I’m still satisfied with the physical treatment I did for the main cover.
