Eiffel 65 – Blue (Da Ba Dee), (1999)

Cyanotype printing is an early photographic process that involves mixing UV reactive chemicals and layering objects over it to create a cast shadow. Anywhere that light touches the chemical turns blue, and after the chemicals are washed away, anywhere in shadow remains the original color of the surface.

I was the assistant to artist Patricia Scialo while making this piece, which was a large-format commission for Jolie Tea Company, for their location in Beverly, MA. We worked over the course of six weeks; gathering materials, cutting shapes, and running tests, before exhibiting the piece at the tea shop’s grand opening.
